Climate Resilience Planning
Recognizing the increasing impacts of climate change, Bridgeport has secured funding through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Climate Resilience Fund to develop a citywide Climate Resilience Plan. This plan adopts a neighborhood-focused approach, ensuring all communities are represented and includes actionable items across infrastructure, social, environmental, and economic resilience.
Community-Led Sustainability Projects
In June 2024, Bridgeport was awarded the Partners for Places grant, enabling the city to build community resilience through collaborative environmental education. This initiative focuses on co-creating a climate resilience curriculum with community leaders, fostering trust and understanding between residents and decision-makers, and empowering residents to participate in climate-related policymaking.
Green Infrastructure and Environmental Justice
Bridgeport is also investing in green infrastructure projects, such as the Beardsley Zoo Green Infrastructure Project. This collaborative effort aims to retrofit the zoo with green infrastructure to manage stormwater and reduce pollution in the Pequonnock River.
